Character Story: Cats are found throughout the game and often help Link throughout his journey. Several Cats who have formed a group live outside of Gengle's house in Castle Town, they speak of secret meetings and important developments in the town.
Race Story: Animals appear all throughout Hyrule and are often often helpful in their own ways, either directly or through subtle advice. Link can talk to them when he is in his wolf form.
